Do you know what to do in case of emergency?

In the wake of the shooting Thursday at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore., Western faculty, staff and students are reminded of important safety information.

Western has an excellent video titled “Three Rules for Surviving an Active Shooter: Run. Hide. Fight,” which is available at Western’s Safety and Emergency Information web page at: http://www.wwu.edu/emergency/.

In addition, an FAQ on the Safety and Emergency Information web page provides information on a range of topics. See: http://www.wwu.edu/emergency/emergencyfaq.shtml.

It also is important that everyone on campus be signed up to receive emergency messages via the Western Alert emergency notification system. Western students, faculty and staff who have not yet registered to receive Western Alerts via text message are asked to update their personal information via the Web4U application.  Employees may also call the Human Resources Department at 360-650-3774.

For faculty and staff in need of support, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available at 877-313-4455. Western Counseling Center staff members are available to any students seeking assistance. The Counseling Center is located in Old Main 540 and can be reached at 360-650-3164.
