Dixie Doran's retirement celebration set for Feb. 28

The Registrar’s Office is hosting a retirement celebration to honor Dixie Doran’s 18 years of service to Western. The celebration will be held in the Old Main Solarium, OM 590, from 1-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28.  Everyone who has known and worked with Dixie over the years is invited to attend. Light refreshments and cake will be provided.

Dixie began her work in the Registrar’s Office as a temporary employee in Degree Evaluation in 2000.  In 2004 she began overseeing Commencement and Degree Evaluation and has proven to be not only an amazing event planner, but also a thoughtful collaborator with many people across campus. During her time at Western Dixie has overseen more than 52,000 degrees awarded and 99 commencement ceremonies. She was instrumental in the spring 2016 off-campus ceremonies held at Bellingham’s Civic Stadium, due to the Carver renovation, which resulted in a total of 10 commencement ceremonies in one academic year!

During her 18 years, Western has had three presidents and Dixie has been essential in implementing the vision each has had for our commencement ceremony. In 2007 Dixie was presented with the Nakama award, given to a member of the Enrollment & Student Services Division, whose work exemplifies an ongoing and dedicated commitment to supporting our students and strengthening the work of the division.

“Throughout her time at Western, Dixie has dedicated her work to ensuring commencement is a beautiful, celebratory occasion and that students leave our campus with a feeling of pride,” said new Commencement Coordinator Emily Marrs.  “Now it is time for us to celebrate Dixie’s career and wish her well as she starts her own new chapter.”
