Discussion panel on Americorps opportunities slated for Nov. 17 on campus

Western Washington University’s Career Services Center and the Center for Service Learning are co-sponsoring a panel discussion at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, for students and graduates interested in exploring opportunities with Americorps.

The panel, "Americorps: the insiders guide to everything you need to know," will take place in Viking Union Room 552. The panelists include current and former Americorps members who have worked in a variety of programs.

Americorps offers 75,000 opportunities nationwide in community development, environment, public safety, housing, youth development and more. At this session, Americorps program coordinators and a current volunteer will share insights that will help attendees:

  • Learn more about the experience and how it can benefit them
  • Choose the program that fits their skills and needs
  • Find out if Americorps is the right fit
  • Get the inside scoop on the application process

In a tight job market, Americorps offers an option for students who would like to gain meaningful, professional experience in unique and challenging environments. Western graduates have served in Americorps positions building homes in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, teaching reading to students in low-income communities and assisting nonprofit agencies who make a difference in our communities.
