Diptychs show micro, macro worlds side-by-side

Using a scanning electron microscope, students in the Art 371 - Intermediate Black & White photography class at Western Washington University explored the miniature world on a colossal scale. Conceptually, they considered the contrast between the microscopic and a personal worldview, using the diptych format to literally juxtapose these two interpretations by setting them side-by-side. One image was produced with the SEM, while the other image was shot using a HOLGA toy plastic camera.

The photos are on display through Nov. 23 on the walls of the Fine Arts building at the Western Gallery entrance.

Participating students are Catheleen Abramowicz, Breanna Coon, Noah Gray, David Henry, Kaitlin Howland, Rachel Ivancic, Rebekkah James, Kathryn Johnson, Emily Jones-Blachowicz, Anna Kerr, Kendall Lawley, Maddie Price, Tasha Smith, ErynDae Thorvaldsen and Alexandra Vincent.
