Did you know? Many WWU employees continue to wear red on Fridays for troop support

Dozens of Western Washington University staff, faculty and students continue to wear red every Friday in support of U.S. troops serving overseas. Group members have pledged to continue the practice until all troops return home.

"This isn’t about the pros and cons of war," said Western employee June Fraser Thistle several years ago after starting the red-on-Fridays trend at WWU. "This is about real people entering very unreal situations for us. This is about real people who come home and sometimes feel unappreciated and lost. These are our students or family or friends."

Nearly three years ago, a photo was taken of staff members wearing red on the front steps of Old Main on the WWU campus. On Friday, Nov. 12, in honor of Veterans Day, another photo will be taken. All who are interested in participating are welcome to join in the photo, which will occur at 11:45 a.m. in front of Old Main.
