Devastating wildfires: How you can help

Western Washington University President Bruce Shepard sent the following message to campus this morning in regard to the wildfires devastating many in Washington state:

Dear Colleagues,

Like you, Cyndie and I have been deeply saddened by the images of devastation caused by wildfires raging in North-Central Washington. The largest fire in Washington state history has burned more than a quarter million acres and 150 homes so far. Thousands have no power. Many families have lost everything and been forced to flee to shelters because of the Carlton complex wildfires.

In response to the terrible damage caused by these wildfires, the Combined Fund Drive has put together a special campaign for residents affected by the fires as well as support for hard-working firefighting crews. To be a part of the campaign, charities must be a current CFD member and provide a written account of their relief efforts on the ground.

For more information on how to give and which charities are currently involved, simply visit the Combined Fund Drive website.

We who are Western have always reached out to others in need, and I ask you to join Cyndie and me in helping those now who are suffering and in significant need in North-Central Washington. Whatever you are able to give will go a long way to help the recovery effort.

Sincerely,

Bruce Shepard
