Deadline approaching for 2015 Rwanda program

The Center for Service-Learning at Western Washington University facilitates two faculty-led international programs in Kenya and Rwanda that promote engaged partnerships between students, faculty, and local and global communities.

The deadline to apply for the 2015 Rwanda program is May 8. Scholarships will be offered for students with demonstrated financial need.

INTL 437I Field Studies and Collaborative Intl. Service Learning in Rwanda (12 credits) is an international service-learning experience in Gashora, Rwanda, during summer quarter 2015. The course will explore the history and cultures of Rwanda through a 9-week program that includes intensive pre-trip preparation and six weeks on the ground. Students will actively collaborate with in-country experts in the implementation of selected service-based field experiences.

  • Through this faculty-led study abroad course, students will:
  • Learn about the cultures, politics and development in rural Rwanda
  • Engage in meaningful service-learning projects to support local development initiatives
  • Discover how to nurture and sustain international partnerships
  • Actively live and contribute in a global society
  • Apply learning for positive social change

Interested students are encouraged to apply ASAP. More information can be found here. Please contact Timothy.Costello@wwu.edu for more details. For other information about the Rwanda program, read the blog from last year's team.
