David Bover chosen as CST associate dean

David Bover, a professor of computer science at Western Washington Unviersity, has been named the associate dean of the College of Sciences and Technology.

Bover came to Western in the fall of 2002 as a professor and chair of the Computer Science Department; he served as chair until the spring of 2010. During his time at Western, he has served on the University Academic Technology Committee (2002-2010, committee chair 2003-2005 and 2009-2010), the Faculty Senate (2004-2006 and 2010-2011), the University Academic Assessment Advisory Committee, and as chair of the UFWW bargaining team (2008-2009). He has proven to be a strong and effective leader as well as collegial and positive colleague who has been able to effect change in a constructive and beneficial manner.

Bover received his bachelopr's degree in applied mathematics at Monash University, Australia, and his Ph.D in computer science at the Australian National University. He began his career as a technologist with the Shell Company of Australia in technical computer programming and operations research. He was a lecturer in computing studies at Canberra College of Advanced Education and at Flinders University of South Australia. He continued his academic career as a faculty member in computer science at the University of Oklahoma, at the State University of New York at Binghamton and at the University of Adelaide.

He was director of the Institute of Computer Systems Engineering and Assurance at the University of South Australia and manager of the consulting division of Camtech at the University of Adelaide. Bover also has had considerable industry experience serving as a principal software engineer with AWA Defence Industries, Salisbury, South Australia, and as a consultant in software engineering both in Australia and in Washington state.

As associate dean, Bover will be assisting Dean Jeff Wright in several key areas, including academic development, enrollment management, professional program accreditation, summer session, the college scholarship program, Foundation and alumni resources and relations, and the administration and resolution of student academic dishonest cases.
