COVID-19 Reminders from HR about FFCRA and Shared Leave

As we approach the end of 2020, Human Resources wants to remind you that the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) will be ending on Dec. 31. This act allowed employees to take leave to quarantine or care for a child whose school is closed due to COVID-19. With the FFCRA ending soon, we wanted to remind everyone that you can apply for shared leave for any reason related to COVID-19, even childcare reasons.  Changes were made to the Shared Leave RCW to include any reason related to COVID-19.

How do I apply for Shared Leave for COVID-19 related reasons?

To receive Shared Leave, you must be an employee that is entitled to accrue sick and/or vacation leave, have a qualifying reason, and have depleted or will deplete accrued leaving no more than 40 hours of applicable leave in reserves.

  1. Complete Shared Leave Application Form, and
  2. Submit Form to HR.Disability@wwu.edu.

How long can I apply for COVID-19 related Shared Leave?

Until the expiration of Proclamation 20-05 (Stay Home – Stay Healthy) issued by Governor Inslee and declaring a state of emergency in the state of Washington, or any amendment to this proclamation, whichever is later, Western may permit an employee to receive Shared Leave relating to COVID-19.

How do I donate to an employee in need?
