Counseling & Wellness opens two new community care spaces in wake of Ukraine invasion

The invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces has impacted communities worldwide, introducing a new level of uncertainty. We may be asking ourselves what the future holds, what should we be doing, and how can we help. It is okay to feel stressed, anxious, sad, scared, and angry.

The Counseling and Wellness Center will be hosting a series of community care spaces on Zoom and in person to process feelings and be in community around the current geopolitical unrest and uncertainty.

Tuesdays on Zoom: 1-2 p.m. on March 1, 8, and 15. Zoom Meeting ID: 968 5680 8164, Zoom Passcode: 375151, Zoom URL: https://wwu-edu.zoom.us/j/96856808164?pwd=dnpTYWt3VDVaWUlueFd0bGNaWnBxQT09

Fridays in the Multicultural Center: 3-4 p.m. on March 4, 11, and 18.

For our veteran and veteran-dependent students, we invite you to drop by Veteran Services in Wilson Library 165 for Coffee with a Counselor, a space to give and receive support through social connection and consultation. Coffee with a Counselor will be held on Tuesday, Mar. 1 from 1:30 to 3 PM, and on Friday, Mar. 4, Mar. 11, and Mar. 18 from 2 to 3:30 PM. Event information can be found at https://win.wwu.edu/event/7945067.

The Counseling and Wellness Center also encourages you to take care of YOU: Check in with your support network, nourish your mind and body, and know that it’s okay to unplug from the 24-hour news cycle to recharge your own batteries. And if you need immediate support, please reach out to the Counseling and Wellness Center at 360-650-3164. You can also text HOME to the national Crisis Text Line at 741741.

If you are looking for ways to support those directly impacted in Ukraine, a few organizations that provide international support to people in need include UNICEF, the Red Cross, and Doctors Without Borders.
