Contingency plans laid for summer commencement

Summer commencement will be held at Western Washington University on Aug. 22.

Renovations for the Carver Academic Facility are scheduled to begin on Western’s campus this summer. These renovations may impact accessibility to Carver Gym, the venue for commencement ceremonies.

As it won't be known until June whether funding is available for these renovations, the university has planned for both of the following scenarios:

  • Renovations will not affect our accessibility to Carver and the commencement ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, in Carver. No tickets are required.
  • Renovations will impact accessibility to Carver. Commencement will be held in the Performing Arts Center on campus. Because this venue is smaller than Carver, two commencement ceremonies will take place on Saturday, Aug. 22. Tentative scheduled times for these ceremonies are 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Students will be given four tickets for their guests.

There is additional guest viewing on campus.

More details will be posted on Western’s Commencement website as soon as they are available.
