Construction Update: Veteran Services and the WWU Map Collection

Construction update: Veteran Services and the Map Library
Under PW719, disAbility Resources for Students (DRS) and Veteran Services will relocate from Old Main to the first floor of Wilson Library. The project will allow the Libraries and Learning Commons to further collaborate with these services to better meet student needs and to make progress in their efforts to provide equal access to educational opportunities to students at Western.

To accommodate the DRS/Veteran Services relocation, the Libraries’ Map Collection is moving from the first floor to the second floor of Wilson Library (Phase 1). To prepare for this move, Wilson 2 East is closed for minor demolition, construction of staff offices, and replacement of carpet and light fixtures. This work will be followed by new paint, new map cabinetry, and furniture. The Map Collection portion of the project is expected to be completed by the start of Fall Quarter 2018.

Once the Map Collection is complete, Phase 2 construction will begin on the first floor of Wilson Library in late August 2018 in preparation for the DRS and Veteran Services move, which is scheduled to be complete by the start of Spring Quarter 2019.

The contractor is setting up the project staging area just south of the Library Presentation area. Pedestrian access will be maintained around the fencing.
