Construction to begin June 21 on a couple of bicycle projects in south campus

Facilities Management at Western Washington University will begin a couple of campus bicycle and pedestrian projects on June 21.

Work crews will be revising the existing intersection between the shared bicycle and pedestrian path and the vehicle parking lot access into lot 19G near the Wade King Student Recreation Center. The configuration is confusing at present, and drivers often follow the asphalt road around the track, thinking it connects with Bill McDonald. The construction should provide a safer bicycle and pedestrian route from Bill McDonald to Haskell Plaza. Crews also will be installing covered bicycle shelters just north of the Communications Facility, replacing the existing metal racks.

The projects should be complete by the start of school in the fall. There will be construction noise and traffic associated with the work, such as trucks delivering construction materials and removing construction debris.
