Community lecture on environmental issues set for Nov. 13 in Poulsbo

Western Washington University Center at Olympic College in Poulsbo will continue its community lecture series with a discussion about environmental issues from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Olympic College in Poulsbo.

The presentation is free and open to the public.

The lecture, titled “Health of the Salish Sea: Toxic Contaminants in the Food Web,” will examine how organisms are exposed to contaminants, which species are monitored for toxins and the health effects of toxic exposure. Lecture material will include a list of contaminants that are problematic in Puget Sound.

Jennifer Lanksbury, a Western alumna, is a marine ecotoxicologist at the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Puget Sound Ecosystem Monitoring Program. She has more than 15 years of experience in the field of marine ecology as a field researcher, data analyst and published author.

Lanksbury’s lecture is part of an ongoing lecture series that is free and open to the community with events scheduled for fall, winter and spring academic quarters. Light refreshments will be served. Participants are encouraged to RSVP online, but it is not required.

On July 17, President David Mitchell of Olympic College and President Bruce Shepard of Western Washington University formally announced their expanded partnership and the creation of the Western Washington University Center at Olympic College in Poulsbo at a special event at Olympic College in Poulsbo. This expansion is part of a joint vision to serve the community and businesses on the Peninsulas.
