Veterans Day ceremony slated for Nov. 9

Students, faculty and staff and community members are invited to a Veterans Day Ceremony from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 in Western Washington University’s Viking Union Multipurpose Room.

A reception will immediately follow the ceremony. Both events are free and open to the public.

Featured speakers include: Western President Bruce Shepard; Western student and former U.S. Marine Lucas Coffey; Western employee, former U.S. Army and Vietnam veteran Tom Brandstrom; and community member William Marshall, retired from the U.S. Air Force.

In addition the Viking Union Art Gallery will feature art created by veterans and a display of veteran uniforms. The gallery is located in the Viking Union, room 507. Gallery hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

The ceremony is co-sponsored by the Veterans Outreach Center and the President’s Office.

In observance of the holiday, WWU classes will not be held on Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 12. This is also a WWU employee holiday.

Parking enforcement on campus will be suspended in all lots from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9. This does not include reserved or disability parking spaces. See the campus parking map.
