Commencement will be in Carver, but the building’s still closed until construction completion in the fall

Construction fencing is being removed from the areas around Carver Academic Facility as workers prepare to hold commencement ceremonies in the gymnasium Saturday. But the building remains closed to the public.

Only graduates, their ticketed guests, and authorized WWU personnel will be allowed in the building during commencement. The gymnasium and restrooms in the east end of the building will be open Saturday for the ceremony, while the western end of the building, including academic offices, classrooms and labs, will be closed off.

After commencement, construction work will resume on the building. The bulk of construction is complete on the renovation and addition, but work will continue this summer on final touch-ups, systems testing and other last-minute issues. Workers will also restore the lawn between Carver and SMATE, which had been used as a construction staging area.

Carver Academic Facility is expected to open to the public at the beginning of fall quarter, with a grand re-opening celebration planned for Oct. 13.
