College Quest students to present TED-style talks at Underground Coffeehouse this Friday

Summer is here at last and with it comes the annual influx of energetic youth visitors to Western’s campus community. You can check out the fun in person this Friday when Associate Professor of Communication Studies Tara Perry and her teaching assistant, Spencer Carlson, opens the door to their Communication 197 class, from 1-3 p.m. at the Underground Coffeehouse located in the Viking Union.

Perry’s class is part of Western’s College Quest curriculum — a summer program providing high school students access to college learning and living experiences. Teens enrolled in Perry’s class will present 5-7-minute TED-style talks to facilitate discussion on issues they believe need to be addressed in society, focusing on Community Activism and Social Justice. Perry said she hopes to attract a campus-wide audience and facilitate discussions that engage and challenge those who attend.

Drop by and show your support for developing learners demonstrating their critical thinking skills and delivering speeches in their own voices and styles before a live audience.  A video of last summer's College Quest students in Perry's class is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TmdFgL_8Qs.
