City water main breaks; Higginson Hall currently without water

At 7:12 this morning, a water main break was reported to University Police near the Oak Street entrance to parking lots 3R, 5G and 7G adjacent to Higginson Hall; Bellingham Public Works arrived at 8:14 and turned off the water main which stopped the leak but also halted domestic water delivery to Higginson.

There has been no damage to Western facilities and no students will need to be relocated. University Residences has set up alternate shower and bathroom accommodations in Edens North for the 98 students impacted in Higginson while the repair is being completed, which is expected to take at least a day.

Entry into parking lots 7G and 3R from the Oak Street access point will be closed during the repair; both of these lots can still be used from the Ivy Street access point at the north end of the lots. Lot 5G next to Higginson remains closed to do work already under way before the leak, and 5G permit holders can continue to park in Lot 7G.
