CFD offers path to helping Sandy victims

The Combined Fund Drive at Western Washington University offers several options for those faculty and staff wanting to help the East Coast victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Sara Wilson, campaign leader for the drive at Western, sent this message to the campus community on Wednesday:

Dear Colleagues,

As a former resident of Virginia and New Hampshire, I watch with horror at the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy.  My heart reaches out in sadness for the millions of people impacted by this event and I can only imagine the time and energy that will be spent rebuilding each and every community.  Yet, I know that we are a country that faces hardship with hope and that together we will be a stronger nation.

Donations will be critical as our friends on the east coast work to rebuild their lives and their communities. A CFD Hurricane Sandy Relief campaign has been established with donations accepted until November 23rd.   Donations are being handled as a one time, credit card donation and will be credited to our campaign efforts for this year.   Donations will be distributed evenly among 10 charities identified as assisting with relief efforts.  These charities include the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, ASPCA, Catholic Charities USA, Children's Hunger Fund, Convoy of Hope, Feed the Children, Humane Society of the United States, New Generation Ministries, Samaritans Purse, and World Vision.

To make a donation takes less than 5 minutes but that time is priceless to those is need.

I hope you will take a minute to visit www.cfd.wa.gov/contribution.aspx, select Hurricane Sandy Relief Campaign under the event dropdown, and add your support.  And please remember to designate Western Washington University in the agency section of donor information.

Your support and concern, as well as any assistance you can offer to the relief efforts, is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Sara Wilson
