Celebrating National Library Week at WWU April 4 – 10

The American Library Association (ALA) recognizes National Library Week as a time to recognize and celebrate the significant impact of libraries, and the work and contributions of library employees.

Beginning in 1958, National Library Week has been sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and observed in libraries across the country each April. All types of libraries, including school, public, academic, and special libraries, participate and are part of this national recognition.

This year’s theme is “Welcome to Your Library,” with the goal of promoting and recognizing that the presence of libraries extends far beyond the four walls of a building, and that libraries want to welcome all who use their services.

The ALA notes that: “During the pandemic, library workers continue to exceed their communities' demands and adapt resources and services to meet their users' needs during these challenging times. Whether people visit in person or virtually, libraries offer endless opportunities to transform lives through education and lifelong learning.”

Western Libraries appreciates the support, recognition, and collaboration the Western community has given to the library, particularly during this past year. Happy National Library Week!
