Candidates selected to fill director position at SPMC

Four strongly qualified candidates for the position of Director of Shannon Point Marine Center have been selected by the search committee, Western Washington University Provost Catherine Riordan announced.

The candidates will come to campus for interviews beginning May 2. Information about the finalists is listed below. Each candidate will visit both the SPMC and Bellingham campuses with research presentations scheduled for both campuses. Videotapes of the research presentation sessions will be available following the candidates’ interviews.

  • May 2 and 3, 2013 - Michael P. Lesser: Lesser is a research professor in the department of molecular, cellular and biomedical sciences at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, N.H. He's also program director at the Biological Oceanography, National Science Foundation (IPA rotator)
  • May 13 and 14, 2013 - Anna-Louise ReysenbachReysenbach is chair of the department of biology at Portland State University in Portland, Ore.
  • May 15 and 16, 2013 - Brian N. Tissot: Tissot is a professor of earth and environmental science at the School of the Environment at Washington State University Vancouver in Vancouver, Wash.
  • May 20 and 21, 2013 - Lewis S. Incze: Incze is a professor of oceanography in the School of Marine Sciences at the University of Maine in Portland, Maine. He's also program director of the Program in Biological Oceanography at the National Science Foundation (rotator)

The position became open when Stephen Sulkin announced he would be retiring as professor and director of the center at the end of the summer.
