Bruce posts blog entry on new library plans

Western Washington University President Bruce Shepard posted a new blog entry this morning on what one person called the "Starbuckization" of Wilson Library. Check out Bruce's new post here. In his post, Bruce talks about the Library's plans to create a "learning commons," part of which would be a new cafe, study and relaxation area.

This collaborative study and presentation space is being planned for Wilson Library Room 279, the former home of Special Collections. Wilson 279 is being reconfigured to meet student demands for additional study space for group work and interaction, as well as additional presentation and performance space for the fruits of student and faculty research.

New carpet and windows have already been installed. New furniture, including upholstered chairs, study tables, and study booths will be installed later this year. Plans also are under way to install an Einstein Brothers’ Bagel kiosk in the space. The kiosk would serve coffee, freshly baked bagels and other grab-and-go items. The newly renovated space will open officially beginning fall quarter 2010.

More information on the conversion of Wilson Library Room 279 is available on the Wilson Library Web site at http://lib207.lib.wwu.edu/node/134.
