Bruce Gagnon to speak on U.S. militarism in April 26 lecture

Bruce Gagnon, coordinator of the Global Network against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space, will speak on the United States' expanding militarism and its impact on the economic crisis in a 4 p.m. lecture Thursday, April 26, in Environmental Studies Room 100 on the Western Washington University campus.

The lecture is part of the World Issues Forum series from Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Gagnon just returned from demonstrations in South Korea protesting the construction of a huge U.S. Navy base on Jeju Island. In addition to militarism, Gagnon will speak on what he thinks of as the need to promote the conversion of the military industrial complex to sustainable production if the U.S. hopes to have any impact on climate change.

These and similar issues are contained in his book “Come Together Right Now: Organizing Stories from a Fading Empire.”
