Board of Trustees reviews draft of Strategic Plan

The university’s strategic planning committee has completed its near 16-month work to develop a new strategic plan.  The Board of Trustees reviewed the plan at its meeting on Feb. 9, and has now directed President Randhawa to develop a framing narrative that explains the context for this plan, how it will serve the educational needs of the state, and help make a stronger case for investment in Western. The Board has also requested a focused set of performance benchmarks that will register progress on how the plan advances institutional mission and vision.

“The Board thought that the committee’s plan accurately reflected who Western is and what it needs to do to be better.  Board members were impressed with the critical thinking and work that went into the plan and complimented the committee on successfully fulfilling its charge,” said President Randhawa.  “They had only one specific suggestion, and that was to revisit the mission and to explicitly state that Western exists to serve the educational needs of the citizens of the State of Washington.”

The work to complete the strategic plan is currently underway in order for the Board of Trustees to take final action at the April 13 meeting.
