Be sure to properly dispose of needles and other sharp objects

Recently, one of the Western Washington University custodians required medical treatment because of a used syringe with exposed needle placed in a waste container.

Plastic bags of trash are removed from individual waste containers and moved around campus for proper disposal.

No one should be injured because needles used for medical reasons or other very sharp objects are improperly thrown away.

Always place broken glass, used needles for medical procedures and other sharp items in a plastic bottle, jar or protective cardboard box prior to placing in a waste container.

If a department would like a small biosafety waste container for incidental disposal of these kinds of items, please contact the Environmental Health and Safety office at (360) 650-3064 or ehs@wwu.edu.

Thanks for your help in keeping Western safer.
