Back by Popular Demand - Move Out Madness is coming to a neighborhood near you

Zero Waste Western, a program of the Office of Sustainability, in collaboration with the Campus Community Coalition, is hosting Move Out Madness on Friday, June 15, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Move Out Madness helps to keep the streets of Bellingham clean by minimizing and properly disposing of waste during move-out. Each year, Move Out Madness continues to reduce Bellingham's previous problem of student belongings being left on city sidewalks after move out.

"The people of Bellingham have noticed an extreme reduction in furniture left on sidewalks over the year, largely as a result of Move Out Madness," said Gwen Larned, Zero Waste Coordinator.

Run by students, for students, there will be multiple locations where students can drop off unwanted belongings and/or pick up anything they may need from items donated by others. At 3:00 p.m. all remaining donated goods with be collected by various nonprofits or properly disposed of by the Zero Waste Western team. Nonprofits participating this year include: The Arc of Whatcom County, Habitat for Humanity, Bellingham Food Bank, Soap4Hope, and others.

Acceptable goods include: reusable household items, clothing, non-perishable food, recyclable materials, and landfill waste at all three locations. This service is free to all Western Washington University students; a valid student ID is required.

Students who do not have access to a vehicle and have larger items to discard can make arrangements to have those items picked up for a $20 fee. To make pick-up arrangements for larger items, please email ZeroWaste@wwu.edu.

  • York Neighborhood: Harriet Spanel Park 400 Block of Whatcom Street
