AUAP students to present on research June 11

Students in the Asia University America Program at Western Washington University will present on research they've been conducting during their time at Western from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, in Carver Gym D on campus.

The students, who spend five months at Western before returning to Asia University in Tokyo to finish their college careers, have varying levels of English proficiency, said Dean Hagin, director of AUAP. Among the many activities they undertake at Western is a project in which they conduct interviews and compile research.

The presentations are an opportunity for the students to practice English when sharing their research findings, which are based on their readings and interviews they conducted in and around the Western community, Hagin said.

"The real crux for them is to get up and speak about it," he said.

The presentations will be in a poster format, with each student explaining their data, in English, to those in attendance.

The students all are nervous, Hagin said. "It's not Scholars Week, but at the same time, they're trying their darndest to explain their research."
