Associated Students to host ‘Viking Funder’ Event for WWU Food Pantry May 14

BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University’s Associated Students will host a “Viking Funder” fundraising event for WWU’s food pantry beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 14 at Birnam Wood and the Viking Union.

The goal is to raise $5,000 to put toward purchasing food, as well as equipment and supplies for the VU food pantry to create accessible food pantry locations around campus. The event is open to all students.

Studies have shown that nearly a quarter of university students nationwide face some kind of food insecurity, turning to cheaper options such as instant noodles instead of fresh foods. Money for the fundraiser will go toward buying a fridge or stocking perishable items, hopefully from produce grown in the AS Outback Farm.

The VU location is already running on the 5^th floor, with the Birnam Wood location launching Monday.
