Associated Students hand out annual club awards at online event May 27

The AS Club Activities Office (Club Hub) and the Ethnic Student Center (ESC) would like to congratulate the following clubs and club members for winning awards at the annual AS Club Awards Ceremony held Wednesday, May 27:

Club Leader of the Year: Gwen Gabert of Best Buddies

Inspiring Individual: Hailee Desrosier of Bellingham Order of the Saber

Unsung Hero: Clark Weitkamp of Bellingham Order of the Saber

Commitment to Justice: Yalda Naimzadeh of the South Asian Student Association (SASA)

Advisor of the Year: Dr. Kimihiro Noguchi of Research Assembly at Western: Statistics

Most Outstanding Event: Indigenous People’s Day by WWU Native American Student Association in partnership with the ESC, Whatcom Community College’s Intercultural Center and Native Indigenous Student Association, and Northwest Indian College

Outstanding Collaborative Event: Nightmare on High Street by Western Hmong Student Association, Latinx Student Association, Oceanic Student Association, Khmer Student Association, South Asian Student Association, and the Japanese Student Association

Most creative Fundraiser: Students for Renewable Energy’s candle sale

Social Event of the Year: Jashn: SASA Winter Heritage Dance

Educational Event of the Year: SASA + SUPER (Students United for Palestinian Equal Rights): A Thoughtful Discussion on Occupation

Social Justice Event of the Year: Black Student Union’s The N Word

Outside the Box (club): Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlán (MEChA)

Most Welcoming (club): WWU Salsa & Bachata Dance Club

Social Distancing Award (new and only for this year): Queer Trans People of Color

New Club of the Year: Best Buddies

Club of the Year: Bellingham Order of the Saber

The Club Hub is also happy to announce that Planned Parenthood Generation WWU has won the fourth annual Club Cup competition. Bellingham Order of the Saber and WWU Wheelchair Basketball won second and third place, respectively.

Congratulations to all of our winners this year and a big congratulations to our graduating seniors! Clubs are a vital force on Western’s campus and we hope you are as proud of all of your accomplishments as we are. Thank you for all that you do to keep our campus educated and moving forward as well as providing a home away from home for all Western students.
