Artist Mandy Greer to present lecture and workshop April 30

Western Washington University’s Department of Art will host artist Mandy Greer for a lecture on Tuesday, April 30 at 4 p.m. in Western’s Old Main Theatre.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Greer’s lecture, titled “The Body and Landscape of our Inner Worlds,” will explore themes through the development of her multi-disciplinary approach.

Greer will also host a crochet workshop from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 30 in Fine Arts Room 226.

The workshop will be based on Greer’s recent project, which focuses on exploring transformations of landscapes and the human body.

Informed by mythology, fairy tales, literature and the experiences of motherhood, Greer is a multi-disciplinary artist from Seattle. Her art spans a variety of forms as she employs site-integrated eco-installations, public participation, and acting using fiber, wearable art and theatrical media.

Greer received a bachelor’s degree in English and a bachelor’s degree in Ceramics from the University of Georgia. She continued her education at the University of Washington, where she received a master’s degree in Ceramics.

She has had several solo exhibitions throughout the Northwest, collaborated on multi-disciplinary and performance work, and has been recognized with several awards including the “Seattle Magazine” Spotlight Artist Award and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award.

Greer’s lecture is part of the 2012-2013 Western Department of Art Speaker Series “Studies in Intermedia.”

The series’ next speaker will be artist Yuken Teruya at 4 p.m. on May 2 at 4 p.m. in the Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education Building room 120.
