Antonio Lucero to present ‘Frictions of Conversion and Contention’ Nov. 6

Antonio Lucero, an associate professor at the University of Washington, will present “Frictions of Conversion and Contention: Religion and Activism in the Tohono O'odham Borderlands,” on Wednesday, Nov. 6, as part of Western Washington University’s Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies World Issues Forum.

The World Issues Forums are free and open to the public and are from noon to 1:20 p.m. every Wednesday in the Fairhaven College Auditorium, unless noted otherwise.

Using his research on indigenous politics, social movements, Latin-American politics and the borderlands, Lucero will analyze the impact of the U.S. Border policies that force migrants to cross and very often die on the Tohono O’odham lands. He will also discuss the controversy surrounding Mike Wilson, a former Green Beret who, against the wishes of his tribe, leaves water for migrants.
