Alumni to share varied leadership experiences Saturday

Western Washington University alumni who through leadership are making a difference in the world will return to campus and share their experiences from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, on campus:

  • Mike Bahn just returned from the Sochi Olympics, where he was part of the strength and conditioning training team for the U.S. Olympic Ski and Snowboard Teams. With his recent experience in Sochi, he can share insights about working in international settings.
  • Luz Gonzalez, a Mercer Island pediatrician, distinguishes herself as being the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants. The WWU community knows her as a gifted physician and strong family advocate; Luz will discuss skills and tips for leading across divergent cultures.
  • Joel Petersen works in the financial services industry and the Board of Trustees President for the Bellevue Art Museum. He previously served as a board member for the Robert Chinn Foundation in Seattle and will talk about how to lead effectively in a service capacity and the importance of engaging in service as a leader.

This session is part two of a leadership series titled "Leadership for What?" This series was designed with WWU students in mind and their desire to lead with passion and vision. These discussions will help students learn more about their leadership and leadership beyond power and titles. Saturday’s panel of accomplished Western alumni will help students understand community service and leadership, internationally and in cross-cultural contexts.
