Admissions office to present inside look at admissions practices Nov. 3

How does Western Washington University select new students? What do Western—and other universities—consider when reviewing admissions applications? Get the facts about the admissions process from an expert. WWU’s director of admissions and enrollment planning, Karen Copetas, will present "Inside Guide to College Admissions" at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, in the Academic Instructional Center on the WWU campus.

With more than 30 years of experience in college admissions—just over 20 years as Western’s director of admissions—Copetas will provide attendees with the most up-to-date perspective on getting into college.

Usually reserved for high school and college counselors, this interactive workshop is open to the Western community exclusively.

Workshop activities include:

  • Learning firsthand how students are admitted to Western by assuming the role of Admissions Counselor, reading real WWU admissions applications and making faux admissions decisions based on Western’s guidelines.
  • Deciphering the difference between what the media says about college admissions and what the real admissions story is with the help of expert WWU admissions staff.
  • Entering a drawing for dinner with a WWU Admissions Counselor to provide extra one-on-one advice and help answer additional questions about the college application process.

Parking for this event is free, and space is filling fast. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain full understanding of what colleges look for regarding admissions, scholarships and more. Dessert and coffee will be provided. For more information or to register, contact the Office of Admissions at (360) 650-3440 or admit@wwu.edu.
