Adjusted start to spring quarter, explained

We've received some questions from students about the plan for spring quarter based on the message we sent last week, with some concerned that remote classes were being switched to in-person. No spring quarter classes that have been listed as Remote-Synchronous or Remote-Asynchronous will have their modality changed for Spring; they will meet remotely as described.

As a reminder, here are the options faculty have for starting spring quarter:

Classes with in-person instruction may be held remotely until the week of April 5, or longer, until the week of April 12, to give students more time to take part in COVID-19 testing, which will be available for students in an increased capacity Monday, March 29, through Thursday, April 1.

For all other classes, instructors can start class on March 30 as normal, or give prep assignments during the first week of class and hold no synchronous class meetings until the week of April 5.

Faculty will inform students of how they will structure the beginning of the quarter within these options, but in all cases, students should expect to begin some academic engagement in their classes during the first week of the quarter for both in-person and remote classes.
