ATUS performing upgrades on faculty and staff e-mail mailboxes

Academic Technology and User Services at Western Washington University is increasing faculty and staff mailboxes to 1GB, according to a notice from ATUS Tuesday morning. Limits on the sizes of e-mail attachements also are increasing.

Before the upgrade, two sizes of mailboxes existed. Users with the normal size would be warned when their mailboxes reached 45MB in size, and they would not be able to send e-mail messages when their boxes contained 50MB of data or more, according to Justin Hagel at ATUS. Users with the large size were warned at 255MB and could not send e-mail at 280MB. Both sizes will be upgraded to the new 1GB limit.

The upgrade process begain this morning, and all mailboxes should have the changes applied within a couple of weeks.

Users may see a message indicating that the Exchange administrator is performing maintenance on their accounts, and any messages sent during this time will stay in usrs' outboxes until the process has completed. The entire process should take less than 10 minutes in most cases.
