Japan Night allows attendees to experience Japanese culture and traditions

The Asia University America Program at Western Washington University plans to hold Japan Night from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room on campus.

Japan Night is an evening of interactive cultural demonstrations and food sampling that is organized and implemented by AUAP students. The students are excited to share Japanese culture with the WWU and Bellingham communites and have prepared a wide variety of cultural displays. Attendees can experience a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, learn the art of haiku poetry, try their hands at Japanese card games, learn about the modern martial art of Budo or try on some outfits from traditional and popular Japanese fashion.

There will also be a sampling of classic Japanese dishes prepared by AUAP students, with an assortment of rice crackers and the finest green tea to compliment the meal.

This event is free and open to the public.

The AUAP is an English language and cultural orientation program that offers students from Asia University in Tokyo an opportunity for a five-month study abroad at WWU. The goal of the program is to provide Asia University students with high quality English language instruction and culturally enriching extracurricular activities, while at the same time offering WWU students, faculty and staff unique opportunities for language and cultural interaction, exchange and involvement.
