26th annual Viking Night dinner and auction set for Sept. 10

The annual Key Bank Viking Night Dinner and Auction, a major fundraiser for Western Washington University Athletics, takes place on Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Multipurpose Room and Viking Commons Dining Hall in the Viking Union building on campus.

The location has been changed for the first time in the 26-year history of the event as Sam Carver Gymnasium is being renovated.

Viking Night is recognized as one of the premier social events in Whatcom County with a huge gathering of Western boosters attending each year. The evening includes a hosted social hour, dinner, and silent and live auctions.

Funds raised from the event are used for scholarships and program support.

"Preparing for Greatness" is the theme of this year's event where attendees have an opportunity to meet WWU student-athletes, coaches and athletics staff members.

Among the items for bid will be many one-of-a-kind packages along with vacations, getaways, wine, and an opportunity to be an honorary Vikings' coach.

Individual admission can be purchased for $75. Tables are $600 for eight and $750 for 10. Handling the auctioneer duties this year will be Seattle's own John Curley, whose dynamic non-stop energy captivates an audience. His 20 years of experience in TV, live theatre and radio puts Curley in a class all by himself.

The Lynda Goodrich Legacy Award winner also will be announced at the event.

Activities begin at 5 p.m., with a hosted cocktail party, dinner and silent and live auctions.

Tickets are still available and can be purchased by contacting the Western Athletics Department (Katie Rothenberg) at 360-650-4314.
