New campaign makes mark on campus

Have you noticed a few transformations around campus? If not, you soon will. From shiny new banners in front of Old Main and along High Street showcasing some of our distinguished alums – representing the many faces and talents of Western – to festive blue bows popping up and a special Get-Your-Blue-On coffee booth giving away Kind Bars and other goodies, Western’s campus is taking on a celebratory air.

So what’s it all about? At the end of this week on Friday, Oct. 24, at 4 p.m., everyone –students, faculty and staff – is invited to a special party and important announcement by President Bruce Shepard in Viking Union’s Multi Purpose Room.

In the run up to the party on Friday, we’ll be celebrating all week long with a special series of philanthropy-focused events and entertainment: Use the hashtag #WesternGives during this special Philanthropy Week to celebrate Western and our vibrant community of donors and supporters; sign a Thank You card for our donors; enjoy campus-wide games with plenty of Western T-shirts, buttons, sunglasses and Frisbees as prizes, as well as two $100 gift cards to the Western Bookstore to be won.

In the meantime, last month, with the help of newscaster and Western alumna Joyce Taylor, we marked the unveiling of the “I Stand for Western” campaign – a campaign we’d like to invite all of you, as part of Western’s community, to be a part of.

You’ll be seeing – and hearing – “I Stand For Western” ads on billboards, buses, newspapers, magazines, online and mobile ads, on social media and on the radio. They have already started to appear throughout Whatcom County, the greater Seattle area, in Portland and soon in Eastern Washington. This is the first effort of this size that has been launched to share Western’s story. Your story.

This is a chance for you to stand up and tell us why you’re proud. What is it you stand for? What characteristic, value or purpose do you have that is also a trait of Western… and the state of Washington? Be proud, boldly share what you stand for at istand4wwu.com and join us as we showcase Western at its best.

For more information, stop by our Red Square booth or call Caite Holman at 360-650-3274. We’re here all week, and looking forward to seeing you at 4 p.m. on Friday!
