Libraries, basketball teams team up for fundraiser

Western Libraries is teaming up with Western Washington University men’s and women’s basketball teams to launch a fundraising campaign to support the university’s libraries.

The “Baskets for Books” campaign is dedicated to raising funds for Western Libraries through a partnership with Western Athletics. Participants in the challenge are asked to pledge between $1 and $10 for every three-point shot made at a home basketball game throughout the season.

"Libraries are all about providing information to users when and where they need it," said Western Libraries Dean Chris Cox. "We encourage folks to get involved and make a pledge. Our goal is to raise $15,000 this year to support acquisitions of print and electronic library materials to support high quality student and faculty research."

Athletics Director Lynda Goodrich said the players are eager to help the Western Libraries in their goal.

"Our student-athletes recognize the value and importance of the libraries to students’ educational success," she said. "And maybe our basketball players will even be inspired to hit more three-point shots, which will benefit their teams and the Western Libraries – a win-win scenario!"
