Leonard Jones hired as director of University Residences at WWU

Leonard Jones has been hired as director of University Residences in the Division of Enrollment and Student Services at Western Washington University.

Jones will begin work at Western on March 25, 2013. He succeeds Willy Hart, who has retired as Western’s director of University Residences.

“Leonard brings more than 20 years of experience with seven of those years at the director level,” said Eileen Coughlin, vice president for Enrollment and Student Services. “His experience includes serving as executive director and director of University Residences at two campuses previous to coming to Western.”

The director for University Residences at Western provides leadership for the overall living/learning environment in the residence halls. This includes oversight of residence life and educational development, facilities, budget, staffing, and the dining services contract.

“To say I'm thrilled to join the Western Washington University family is more than a major understatement. The degree of cooperation and collaboration among faculty and administrators to build a welcoming, diverse and family community that best supports student growth and achievement is second to none,” Jones said. “I am very honored to join such a talented group of caring professionals."

Jones has a bachelor’s degree in social welfare and a master’s degree in higher education from Southern Illinois University.

“Consistently throughout my career, I established effective partnerships across broad campus constituencies ... Creating an atmosphere of measured, data-driven success among key campus constituents is an essential component of my professional core,” Jones said in his letter of interest to Western.
