Learning Technology Group meetings start Tuesday

A new series of monthly Learning Technology Group lunch-hour discussions begins Tuesday, Sept. 27. The meetings are aimed at increasing Western's campus-wide understanding and use of technology as a teaching tool. All Western faculty, staff and interested students are welcome to attend.

The discussions will take place on three dates this fall: Sept. 27, Oct. 25 and Nov. 29. All meetings are noon to 1 p.m. in Viking Union Room 567.

Each discussion will feature aQ&A period so attendees can discuss pressing technology-related topics, even if they don't fit into the presentation topic. So please come, bring your lunch, and enjoy some coffee, cookies and conversation!

This month's meeting focuses on Prezi and Camtasia.

Prezi is a new, popular web-based presentation tool that allows users to present ideas in a fluid, interesting way. Or, as they say on the Prezi website, “create game-changing presentations online.” Tired of using the same old PowerPoints? Prezi may give you the tools you need to mix it up!

Camtasia is Western's campus screen recording and lecture capture tool. It is available as licensed software that users can install on their computers (Camtasia Studio) or use on any computer with a webcam to create and present lecture recordings (Camtasia Relay). If you've wanted a way to provide lectures or recorded feedback to your students when they're not in the classroom, Camtasia is a great option.

The Learning Technology Group at Western is a faculty-oriented discussion group, focused on technologies used in teaching and learning.
