Kappa construction work continues through May

A project to install new fire alarm and sprinkler systems to protect the Ridgeway kappa residential facility is ongoing. Work began in April and is expected to continue through most of May.

In addition to the fire alarm and sprinkler systems, the project also includes removal of asbestos and replacement of finishes. These improvements will provide a safer and cleaner residence hall and will bring the building more into compliance with local, state and federal codes.

The project consists of a new 13R fire sprinkler system, automatic fire alarm system, suspended acoustical panel and metal pan ceilings, gypsum board soffits, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, hazardous materials abatement, emergency lighting systems, interior painting and floor coverings.

The work will produce loud noise, dust and vibrations during general construction and HEPA fan noises during abatement. The fans are required to run 24/7 in order to keep containment.
