'Jump Start WWU' a huge success

The office of Student Outreach Services hosted "Jump Start WWU" from Sept. 21-23 for new first-year and transfer students.

Jump Start WWU is a free three-day orientation program that allows students to move in early and meet other first generation, multicultural, non-traditional students like themselves. Jump Start WWU enhances and supports students’ transition to Western by encouraging them to build a community and support network with their peers, WWU faculty and staff and develop a strong understanding of how to navigate college. Participating faculty and staff shared their resources.

Alex Czopp, Shurla Thibou, Debra Salazar, Nini Hayes, Victoria Matey, Grace Wang, Jessica Stillwell, Kyra Craig, Nikki Cassidy, Dina Murphy, Barbara Luton, Mary Nichols, Sandy Brown, Anne Marie Theiler, A Longoria, Ryan Larsen, Danielle Smith, Tuesday Villanueva and Casey Hayden provided workshops focused on financial, academic, community and career success.

Student panels shared their personal narratives throughout the weekend.

Student Outreach Services is located in Old Main 387, with office hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Walk-in advising hours: are from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m.
