John Popko speaks May 9 in series on redefining the Western Libraries

John Popko, the university librarian at Seattle University, will share and discuss "Transforming Learning & Building Community" at 4 p.m. today, May 9, in Wilson Library Room 164.

When properly conceived and designed, Popko says, a 21st century academic library can be a combination of destination, inspiration and multi-modal service center that can have a significant positive impact on building a campus community and transforming the educational experiences of students.

In his talk, Popko will cover the 10-year project focused on conceptual and practical aspects of SU's library facility as well as the extent to which that work might be applicable to other educational institutions.

A video of this presentation, as well as those of previous speakers in the series, will be made available in Viking Village soon after the presentation as part of an online discussion in which the campus community is encouraged to share thoughts about the ideas presented.

Popko's talk will be streamed live online.
