A college student who earned straight A's and sent thousands of text messages to his family and friends each month has vanished in Washington, where authorities are scouring a university campus for the missing 18-year-old.

Dwight Clark was last seen in the early morning hours of Sept. 26 when he left an off-campus party at Western Washington University to go back to his dorm, less than a mile away, according to authorities in Bellingham, Wash.

Friends of missing Western Washington University student Dwight Clark will be on campus every day this week fundraising and passing out flyers to help find their friend.

Clark is an 18-year-old freshman at WWU and went missing more than a week ago. He was last seen leaving a friend’s house at 2 a.m. on Sept. 26. He headed back to his dorm but never made it.

The WSU students running the table are friends or are from Clark’s hometown, Auburn.

Dashiell, 34, is a graduate of Western Washington University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism degree in 2001.

Dashiell began at the Gazette as an intern that year and was promoted to sports editor in 2002.

The Eastside Catholic swim team has a new head coach. Rick Wertman, who received the 2007 Washington State High School Swim Coaches Hall of Fame award, recently took over the Crusader swim and dive team.

Wertman is a Western Washington University graduate and has coached since 1975 at various high schools, including Bellevue, Enumclaw and Mount Rainier high school. During his 16 seasons (1989-2005) with Mount Rainier, Wertman led the boys swim team to three consecutive state championships and six overall state titles, the release said.
