WWU's Jackson, Watson named GNAC Male Athletes of the Week

Two Western Washington University indoor track and field athletes, distance runner Chip Jackson and jumper Brett Watson, have been named Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week for Jan. 26-Feb. 1.

Jackson, a senior from Shoreline, won the mile at the University of Washington Invitational on Saturday, His time of 4:07.95 was less than a second off the WWU school record and was the second-fastest in GNAC history.

Watson cleared 6-10 1/4 in the men's high jump, breaking the school record of 6-9 set by Ron Olson in 1992 and the GNAC mark of 6-9 3/4 by Cresap Watson of Central Washington in 2006.

Both of the performances were NCAA Division II provisional national qualifiers.
