WWU honors holocaust survivor, teacher with degree

Holocaust survivor Noémi Ban will receive Western Washington University’s honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters degree at the winter commencement ceremony, which starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23, in Carver Gymnasium on the WWU campus in Bellingham.
Ban was born in 1922 in Hungary and was deported to Auschwitz during World War II. She experienced the loss of her mother, grandmother, 13-year-old sister and six-month-old baby brother in the death camps.
