WWU CROSS COUNTRY: Porter shines in the mud, snow at regional

Western Washington University senior Sarah Porter has been known to go on part of a training run completely naked during the offseason. So how does she prepare to compete in the snow for only the third time that she can remember?

"I went out in my underwear last night just to check it out," Porter said. "It was pretty miserable."

On Saturday, Nov. 20, it was Porter who made life pretty miserable on most of the best NCAA Division II women's cross country runners in the West Region, as she smoked the field with a time of 21 minutes, 21.9 seconds to win the regional championship at East Lake Padden Park. Her nearest competitor was Alaska Anchorage's Ruth Keino, who finished in 22:01.2.
