Whatcom Community College does first audit to reduce campus waste

"Students at Whatcom Community College celebrated Earth Day by getting elbow-deep in their own garbage.

Students spent Thursday, April 22, sorting garbage into piles of compostables, recyclables and everything else as part of the school's first waste audit.

Richard Bruno, a first-year student at Whatcom, organized the event in hopes of finding ways the college can reduce the amount of trash heading to landfills and increase the amount being recycled or composted."
