Students share research with Larsen

The effects of climate change on oysters, the way microplastics are impacting sea creatures and the biochemistry of the seafloor at Bellingham Bay are all projects being researched now at Western Washington University’s Shannon Point Marine Center.

U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen stopped by last week to talk to with several of the students who are taking part in this summer’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates program, offered through the National Science Foundation.

As part of the program, eight students spend the summer in Anacortes at the Shannon Point facility. This summer, they came from places as far away as Puerto Rico, Texas, New York and Michigan.
